What We Collect

Website Analytics (Cloudflare)

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how many people visit our site. This collects:

• Pageviews and visit duration
• Country (not city or precise location)
• Device type, browser, operating system
• Referrer (which website you came from)

No cookies are used. Cloudflare anonymizes all data at the network edge. Your IP address is not stored.

Game Statistics (Our Servers)

When you play a puzzle, we log your attempts to calculate solve rates and improve the game. This includes:

• Puzzle ID and date
• Whether you solved it (success/failure)
• Number of attempts and hints used
• Time taken to solve
• Anonymized session ID (random identifier, cannot identify you)
• Country (from network data)

Your session ID is hashed using one-way encryption and cannot be reversed to identify you. We do not collect names, emails, or other personal information.

Local Storage (Your Device)

We store your game streak and stats in your browser's local storage:

• Current streak
• Number of games played
• Past puzzle attempts
• Your best time and completion statistics

This data never leaves your device. It's stored locally in your browser and is not sent to our servers.

How We Use This Data

We use analytics to:

• Understand how many people play the game
• Measure puzzle difficulty and solve rates
• Improve the game experience
• Fix bugs and technical issues

We do not sell, share, or use your data for advertising.

Your Rights

You can clear your local game data anytime by:

• Using your browser's "Clear browsing data" feature
• Clearing site data for chainwhich.com specifically

Because we don't collect personal information, we cannot identify individual users in our analytics database.

Data Retention

We automatically delete puzzle attempt logs older than 1 year. This ensures we only keep data that is relevant for improving current puzzles.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Cloudflare: Content delivery, DDoS protection, and cookie-free web analytics
• Google Cloud Platform: Hosting for our backend services and puzzle storage

Both services are GDPR-compliant and do not use your data for advertising.

GDPR Compliance

If you are located in the European Union:

• We do not process personal data (no names, emails, or identifiable information)
• Session IDs are anonymized and cannot be linked back to you
• No cookies are used for tracking
• You have the right to request deletion of any data (though we cannot identify specific users)

Children's Privacy

Our game does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. We do not request personal information from any users.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect when changes were made. Continued use of the game after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
